Show combines classical and urban dance
13 April, 2017
Even though it may seem otherwise, marrying classical music to street dancing is not impossible, as evidenced by a world champion breakdancing crew’s feature length show. Red Bull Flying Bach is choreographed to the soundtrack of Johann Sebastian Bach’s series of preludes and fugues The Well-Tempered Clavier. In addition to moves that seem to defy human physical ability, the show captures the audience’s imagination with an engaging story and striking visual effects. Founded in 1993 in Berlin by two dancers, Vartan Bassil and Kadir "Amigo" Memis, today the Flying Steps crew is comprised of over 30 elite break dancers. The four-time world champions Flying Steps teamed up with esteemed opera conductor Christoph Hagel to create the first ever show that combines classical music and urban dance culture. The production, which has won the ECHO Klassik award, has toured in 31 countries and is now headed to its next stops - Italy, Bulgaria and Poland.
