First photo book exhibition in Sofia
10 June, 2017
Bulgaria’s first ever photo book exhibition was opened at the Instituto Cervantes on 5 June as part of the fourth edition of the Fotofabrika Festival. The exhibits on show are on loan from the Spanish association Fanzinant’s collection. The event presents contemporary photographic fanzines (a blend of the words fan and magazine), in this case photographers’ projects printed on paper. The show includes some of the first publications featured in the association’s collection, as well as fanzines realised using various techniques. The photo books will remain on display until 19 June.
Among the upcoming highlights of this year’s edition of the Fotofabrika Festival is an exhibition by Spain’s Cristina Garcia Rodero, a member of the international photographic cooperative Magnum Photos. Entitled Open-Mouthed, the selection of works will be put on show at the National Art Gallery from 15 June until 23 July. The exhibition focuses on the mouth as one of the most expressive parts of the human body, with its ability to convey the whole gamut of emotions – from anger and joy to fright and happiness.
