Wild child of classical music to play in Sofia
1 December, 2017
The Sofia Philharmonic Orchestra with conductor Nayden Todorov and violinist Patricia Kopatchinskaja are presenting Schoenberg's Violin Concerto on 21 December in Bulgaria Hall in Sofia. Kopatchinskaja is the most exciting violinist of our time. They call her a “music extremist” because of her unique sound and unparalleled stage presence.
The “barefoot angel” has earned awards in the world’s most prestigious competitions. Her repertoire covers an exceptionally wide range of genres – from baroque and classical to contemporary pieces. A muse for modern composers, she plays contemporary music so naturally that it sounds like classical, while the classical pieces are played with such a fresh approach it is as if they were just created. Eleven of the most prominent composers of our time have written especially for her.
Kopatchinskaja was born in Chisinau, Moldova, to the family of musicians. Her family moved to Vienna when she was 11 and she later graduated from the conservatories in Vienna and Bern, where she currently lives with her husband and daughter.
